St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, North Baltimore

The congregation will gather February 14 for Ash Wednesday fellowship and worship.

Soup and sandwiches will be served at 6:15 p.m. followed by worship at 7:00 p.m.

The traditional imposition of ashes on the forehead will be observed, to signify our sinfulness and mortality.

A ceremony of “washing the ashes” follows Holy Communion, to signify God’s forgiveness of sins, our baptismal call as disciples, and the ultimate victory over death promised in the Sacraments.

The sermon will be: “The Heart of Lent” — the first in a series of sermons on the meaning of Lent.
