Carter Historic Farm

Topics covered include wildlife conservation, safety, and the proper handling of firearms and other hunting equipment. Please note that all registration and coursework must be completed in advance. We are unable to accept walk-ins the day of the program. Registration ends Sunday, Oct 1 to allow for completion of the online portion of the class.

Hiding in Plain Sight

Sunday, October 8; 3:30 – 4:30 pm

Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve

Did that stick just move on its own? Could it be a camouflaged walking stick bug? Come and learn about the different types of camouflage and try your hand at blending in to your surroundings!

Scarecrow Contest & Workshop

Tuesday, October 10; 5:00 – 7:00 pm

Wood County Historical Center & Museum

Join in on the fun of the fall tradition of building scarecrows. We provide the straw, string, support pole, and refreshments; you bring scarecrow clothes, decoration, and support for the scarecrow’s back and arms (to attach to the display pole, if needed). You can take it home or enter it in our 15th Annual Scarecrow Contest to win cash prizes! Forms will be available at the workshop. Contest scarecrows will be left on display for our October 14th Folklore and Funfest at the Historical Center. Limited scarecrow clothes available, first come first served.
