The North Baltimore High School Alumni dinner was held on Friday night, July 24, before the Good Ole Summertime Festival last weekend. This annual event is an opportunity for alumni and friends to reconnect and reminisce about growing up in this community. Many classes attend the dinner and continue their reunions and celebrations throughout the weekend.
Dan Gerdeman, Class of 1985, entertained the crowd of 160 guests, with his tender-hearted stories and “Tarr Street” humor, as he shared his memories of growing up in North Baltimore, and how that has influenced his perspective on life and his professional career.
Dan is the son of Jim (NB ’58) and Pat (Thompson NB ’62) Gerdeman. He and his wife, Judy, reside in Pickerington, Ohio with their three children.
Dan did his undergrad work at BGSU and his masters degree work at Ohio State. He is an art teacher at Hilliard Davidson High School on the west side of Columbus. He is an active member of the Ohio Art League and regularly teaches classes at the Columbus Museum of Art and the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University. He is a working artist and film maker.
Guests arrived from throughout the country. The most recent graduates present were Mariah Leonard and Makayla Rein, from the NB Class of 2015. The eldest graduates present were Mrs. Monetta Jones Hesse, Mrs. June Harris Blake, and Mr. Wilbur Wirt, Class of 1942.
Allison Beaupry was awarded the North Baltimore High School Alumni Association scholarship for $750. This scholarship is given annually to an NB student continuing their education at a university or post-secondary training program. Allison was unable to attend the event to accept her award, as she is spending her summer working as a Camp Counselor at a Girl Scout Camp. Allison will be attending BGSU this fall, studying Music Education.
In a special surprise announcement, the NBAA had received an anonymous matching gift, and a second scholarship award of $750 was able to be presented this year. The recipient was Makayla Rein, who coincidentally happened to be at the dinner, but was totally unaware of her impending gift. She will be attending The Ohio State University this fall, studying English Education.
The dinner was prepared by Colleen Kaufman. Briar Hill Health Campus donated desserts.
The NBAA would like to thank Dan Gerdeman for his outstanding presentation, everyone who helped update our Class Member database, sent contributions to the scholarship fund, and helped assist with the dinner or golf outing, in any way.
The North Baltimore Alumni Association coordinates the activities associated with this evening, including a tour of the new middle/high school, the dinner, the NBAA Scholarship, and the Good Ole Summertime Festival golf outing. The NBAA committee is Don and Tami (Bibler) Thomas, Jeff and Sue (Benedict) Miklovic, and Jill (Shaffer) Guy.
