Big USDA Loan for North Western Electric Co-Op

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded an $8,000,000 loan to the North Western Electric Co-Op for system improvements. The North Western Electric Co-Op provides electric service to more than 6,000 consumers in Defiance, Henry, Paulding, and Williams Counties in northwestern Ohio. The loan will help the Co-Op expand and improve electric service for northwest Ohio residents.

“Rural Ohioans face unique challenges in getting the power they need to keep the lights on,” said Brown. “This investment provides North Western Electric Co-op with the resources it needs to ensure Northwest Ohio has access to the power needed to attract and create jobs and provide a secure power source for its customers.”

The funds for this loan are a part of the USDA’s Electric Infrastructure Loan and Loan Guarantee Program. Brown helped secure a strong Rural Development title in the 2014 Farm Bill, and is continuing to advocate for Rural Development programs in the 2018 Farm Bill.
