This years summer camp went really good. All of our troop earned 2 – 6 merit badges each and our first year scouts learned quite a bit about scouting’s Baden Powell T21 experience. The summer camp experience is so memorable in many ways for both scouts & leaders. It is scouts in overdrive with all aspects of the week relating to scout craft, family, bonding and training. The stories each of us can tell and add to our memories is priceless and most of them will make you laugh
Levi T. was called out for the OA this year and will attend an ordeal over the next 12 months. Our movie making merit badge scouts won the “BEST MOVIE” award and had Camp Berry rolling with laughter after watching their cult hit ” EL BLANCO DIABLO”. Garret B. received the Einstein award. Jordan K. beat his fears of heights by climbing the rock wall to the top.
Tim Brown, Tony Hetrick and myself were the adult leadership attending this year. A few bug bites, sunburn and wet camping supplies later we survived . Another great year. Interesting enough. Our old scoutmaster, Mark Povenmire drove by the scouts unloading the trailer in the rain. He waved and smiled. I bet he was happy not to be finishing up camp in the rain. Great to see you Mark.
Troop Committee Meeting
As mentioned last month. We would like to plan a committee meeting on Wednesday July 8th at 7:00pm in the scout house. There are a lot of topics to review plus a couple of adults leaders who are interested in joining our uniformed scouters. Scout membership, summer camp review, finances, trailer, youth leadership , etc.
Awards and Family picnic
August 2nd at 4:00pm will be our scout picnic and Awards. I have reserved Shelter house 3 for the event. Potluck style , burgers / Hot dogs will be grilled. Any volunteers, again, for a grill and cook? All merit badges, ranks, and leadership will be announced that day.
G.O.S.T.
Also, Good Ole Summertime is fast approaching, Saturday, July 25. I am in need of dads and grills for the event to cook brats and hot dogs. The booth will be set up and operating from 10:00am – 10:00pm. Scouts will run the sale and customer end and dads/ gramps, moms/ family will run the grills. I’ve heard from a few dads parents who are interested in helping so please take time to offer a time slot. The day requires 2 parents / 2 scouts/ and 2 custodians for 2 hr shifts. and a grill / propane for the day. Maybe a couple ..
Note – this is a big fundraiser for us and requires as many scouts / parents as can commit. In the upcoming weeks, I will be applying for a food license , purchasing supplies, reserving a vendors booth . The brat sales will blend with the Polka music scheduled for the day.
August 7 – 9 . we will be camping out at Doc Roberts woods. It is a troop and patrol camp out. Each patrol will stake out camp and cook their own food , build a latrine. We will invite Webelos 2 scouts out for the event. There will be a menu and grocery list going around.
Baden Powell Quotes
“In Scouting, a boy is encouraged to educate himself instead of being instructed.”
“The spirit is there in every boy; it has to be discovered and brought to light”
