WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – the co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Air Force Caucus – met with former U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson, President Trump’s nominee to serve as the Secretary of the Air Force and highlighted key priorities for Ohio Air Force bases. During the meeting, Brown urged Wilson to support the $12 million needed at Toledo’s Air National Guard Base to make facility improvements for the 180th Wing to perform its Aerospace Control Alert mission. The funding would help install new hangars for F-16 aircraft that are needed to carry out the mission at Toledo.
“Toledo’s 180th Fighter Wing performs an important mission that demands the most up-to-date facilities to get the job done,” said Brown. “I will work with Dr. Wilson if confirmed to make funding new construction at the 180th a top priority.”
The 180th Fighter Wing employs approximately 1,400 individuals in northwest Ohio and conducts the nation’s number one homeland defense mission, Aerospace Control Alert. Last year, then Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James visited the Toledo Air National Guard Base at Brown’s invitation.
