Carey “Skip” McCartney, 73, of Van Buren, passed away at 3:27 p.m.
Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

He was born on February 22, 1946, in Findlay, OH to the late Homer and Eva
(Snyder) McCartney. He married Mary Jane Claybaugh on May 28, 1968 and she survives.
Skip is also survived by his sons: Clay (Beth) McCartney of Bowling Green,
Guy (Chasity) McCartney of Van Buren, and Will (Kelly) McCartney of North
Baltimore; his sisters: Shirley Thomas of North Baltimore, Doris Bouillon
of Oak Harbor, Barb Hesse of Oak Harbor, and Sharon Crouse of North
Baltimore; his beloved grandchildren: Macy, Kelly, Marly, Jace, Mia,
Camden, and Emerson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gail and Helen Claybaugh; his sisters-in-law: Sue (Dr. Tom) Perry of Kettering, Nancy (Jim) Wymer, and Lisa Claybaugh; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law: Bill Crouse, Robert Hesse, and Everett Thomas.
Skip retired in 2008 from Ball Metal Manufacturing after 34 years. He was
a member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Baltimore and
Sons of the North Baltimore American Legion Post 539. He was the former
President of the Findlay Racing Pigeon Club.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, March 25, 2019, at St.
Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Baltimore, with Pastor Ralph
Mineo officiating. Burial will be in Bethel/Ten Mile Cemetery. Visitation
will be held Sunday from 12:00-4:00pm at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, and for 1 hour (10-11am) prior to the service at church.
