Columbia Gas of Ohio wants to remind the public that before they put a shovel in the ground or start any digging project, it’s important to follow safety ground rules:
· Plan ahead. Call 811 at least two business days before you plan to dig and a team will come out to mark your gas lines. It’s easy and the service is free—and it’s the law!
· Call for projects big and small. Everything from putting up a mailbox or building a deck or planting a hedge—they all require a call to 811.
· Tell your contractor. If you have a contractor doing your work instead, make sure he or she calls 811 before starting the job.
To commemorate 8/11 on the calendar, Columbia Gas teamed up with the Toledo Mud Hens to promote safe digging at Friday’s game vs Buffalo. Kids were able to take part in their own safe-digging activity with a giant sandbox on the main concourse. Columbia Gas of Ohio representatives were on hand as well to offer suggestions and services to help individuals safe when planning their next digging project. Digger Dog, official safety mascot of Columbia Gas of Ohio, was also in attendance.
