In spite of all our wars, terrorism, and prejudices, human beings, we have a deep desire to be truly connected to one another. We want to be accessible to each other. We build bridges of all types.
The largest suspension bridge in the world is in Japan, extending almost 2.5 miles, with enough wire cables to circle the earth 7.5 times. There’s been a proposal for many years to build a suspension bridge across the Strait of Gibraltar, to connect Europe to Africa. Such a bridge would extend 9 miles with enough cable to circle the earth 30 times! If such a bridge doesn’t create the connection, a proposal for a tunnel is also in the works.

To me, one of the most fascinating proposals (that could happen) for making connections is a “space elevator.” It would connect the earth to a satellite or space station.
As fascinating as that is, the greatest connection we can have is being connected to God. Humans simply can’t create such a connection. But it’s possible for God! God is always making connections for us.
The most significant way God connects to us is through faith in Jesus Christ. Though humanity and the forces of evil tried to destroy this bridge, it’s indestructible, eternal! “Nothing,” Paul writes in Romans 8:28, “can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.” No winds, no floods, no wild fires, no war, no terrorism, no evil, not even DEATH ITSELF can destroy God’s indestructible bridge of love!
Through the love of Jesus, we can be forever connected to God, and to one another in divine love. We participate in the connecting when we pray, when we forgive, when we serve, when we worship, when we sacrifice for the well-being of others.
There’s truly nothing more wonderful than being connected to the very heart of God in our daily lives. Such a connection gives us peace in Christ Jesus! May such peace be with you.
