Doris J. Eckman, 83

Doris J. Eckman, 83, of North Baltimore passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018.

She was born on September 26, 1935 in Van Buren to the late Orville and Lillian M. (VanScoder)Nungester. Doris married Carl Dewane Eckman on August 15, 1953 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2015.

She is survived by four children: Dewane (Donna) Eckman of North Baltimore; Lilly (Jeff) Beltz of Florida; Steven (Joanne) Eckman of Ottawa; and June (Bruce) Cole of Lore City, Ohio. She is also survived by her sister, Julia M. Oswald; brother, Laurence E. Nungester; sister-in-law, Patricia A. Nungester; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Eckman was preceded in death by three sisters: Ada V. Bauman, Shirley A. Wittenmyer, and Esther L. Bloomfield; and a brother, Ivan Nungester.

Doris retired from the North Baltimore Local Schools after 17 years as a cook and baker. She also worked for the Day Care Center for five years. She was a life member of the North Baltimore American Legion Auxiliary Post #539. Doris also served many years on the Wood County Board of Elections as a judge.

She volunteered her time to help give away food to needy people. Doris loved camping and roller blading with her husband Carl. She also bowled in the ladies league for over 20 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore.

Funeral services were Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Duane Weaver officiating. Burial in New Maplewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Bridge Home Health & Hospice.
