UPDATED – Dorothy I. Pelton, 89, NB

Dorothy Irene Pelton, age 89, of North Baltimore, Ohio, passed away on July 3, 2019 at Briar Hill Health Campus, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Haskins, Ohio, on November 9, 1929, to the late Joseph and Mary (Turchan) Letso, but spent most of her life in North Baltimore and Findlay.

Dorothy worked for 30 years at Auto-Lite in Fostoria, Ohio, where she remained an active member of the union after retirement, enjoying the monthly luncheons and periodic trips they took, until her health prevented her from participating.

She spent much of her time in retirement volunteering at Findlay Hospital, Findlay Senior Center, Briar Hill Health Campus, and providing transportation for friends who were unable to drive. Dorothy loved people, especially those who appreciated her offbeat sense of humor.

She was an avid seamstress and was always willing to sew for others, even after entering assisted living at Briar Hill Health Campus, where she happily sewed for other residents until she was no longer able. She was probably best known for her work ethic, always working hard at whatever she did.

Dorothy was preceded in death by the love of her life, Darrell Pelton, from whom she was divorced, but always loved. She is survived by three daughters from her first marriage to the late John Edward Franks: Sharon Lafferty of Genoa, OH, Gina (Joe) Bates of Hot Springs Village, AR, and Terry Kugler of McKeesport, PA; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Only one of her fifteen siblings, Steve, of Findlay, OH is still living.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 10:00-11:00am at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore and a Memorial Service will be held after the visitation at 11:00am.

Burial will follow at New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore. Memorial Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coldrencrates.com.
