Dorothy J. Heilman, age 97 of Custar passed away at Woodhaven Health Care on Saturday, August 31, 2019. She was born on Nov. 29, 1921 in Wood
County to the late Charles and Ilah (Junkins) Haas. She married Jacob J.
Heilman on Aug. 16, 1941 and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1999.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Esther) Heilman of Custar and Gene
Heilman of North Baltimore; a daughter, Carol (Ronald) Barnes of Enumclaw, WA; eight grandchildren, Cheryl Heilman, Shelley (Scott) Gonyer, Steve (Sandy) Heilman, Dean (A.J.) Heilman, Todd (Arlene) Heilman, Erin Barnes,Laura (Donnie) McMasters, Sarah (Steve) Strang; step-granddaughter, Alisa (Anthony) Groves; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and two
step-great-great-grandchildren
Two brothers, Dale and Lemart Haas and three sisters, Florence Martins, H. Irene Trumbell and Martha Haas also preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm and was a talented quilt maker.
Dorothy was a member of the South Liberty United Methodist Church and served on the Ladies Aid Society. She was also s former 4H Advisor and participated in the Friendly Neighbors Farm Bureau Council.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, September 5, 2019 at
South Liberty United Methodist Church (corner of Bays & Potter Roads) with Pastor Chris Boggs officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00pm Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore and one hour prior to the service (10:00-11:00am)
Burial will follow in Milton Twp. Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to South Liberty United Methodist Church and online condolences can be shared by visiting coldrencrates.com.
