Dorothy M. McCartney, 87 of North Baltimore passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Wood County Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1932 to the late Charles Curtis and Annalee (Holmes) Rader in Mt. Blanchard, Ohio. She first married Lawrence Ball, Jr. and he is deceased. On Feb. 6, 1965, she married Kenneth McCartney and he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1994.
Surviving her are four daughters, Judy (Gary) Cupp of Perrysburg, Debra Lee Howard of Alabama, Dawn (Frederick) Finkenbiner of North Baltimore and Jody Lynn (Robert) Coop of North Baltimore; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Smith of Indiana.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Ann (Ball) Mitchell and infant, Kelly Sue McCartney; a great-grandson, Jeryd Cotterman and two sisters, Saphronia Biller and Margaret Landversicht.
Mrs. McCartney was a waitress and nurses’ aide for years before ending her career at North Baltimore and Powell Schools and also worked as a self-contractor for the Village of North Baltimore. She collected for various charitable organizations throughout her adult life. She was a girl scout leader for many years and loved picnics, going out to eat and doing for others in need. Kenneth and Dorothy spend a lot of time singing to his guitar.
She was a former member of the Crystal Ave. Baptist Church and attended the Beecher Street Church. Funeral services will be held at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore at 11:00am Saturday, November 16, 2019 with Pastor Bill Cook officiating.
Burial will follow in New Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and online condolences can be shared by visiting coldrencrates.com.
