Easy Ways to Reduce Your Exposure to Allergy Triggers

(Logical Position) As the seasons fluctuate, it isn’t uncommon for our allergies to flare up. Between stuffy noses and watery eyes, concentrating becomes difficult, and we’re willing to do whatever it takes to ward off the symptoms. Though allergies are difficult to beat, we can take precautionary measures to help minimize our exposure to the things that trigger them. We’ve collected a list of our best tips for reducing your exposure to allergy triggers.

Know What Your Triggers Are

The first step should be to identify what exactly causes you to flare up. If you’re having difficulty with this, document your environment every time you feel your allergies begin to worsen. See if you can locate the common denominator, and then do your best to avoid it whenever you can.

Avoid Doing Lawn Work

If you can, avoid chores such as mowing the lawn or raking leaves. When you do these tasks, you release a substantial number of irritants into the air. Ask if a family member is willing to take over these chores while you work on ones you can better manage. If they can’t, consider hiring someone to do these tasks for you. This may seem like a bit of an investment, but it’s worth lessening your exposure to allergy triggers.

Get Rid of Mold

Generally speaking, people with existing allergies suffer the most from the negative effects caused by mold. You should seek to keep your home mold-free by taking certain precautions such as maintaining the proper humidity levels and ventilating your home. Doing so will also help alleviate normal allergy symptoms. If you suspect your home or workplace has mold, however, be sure to call a professional to rectify the situation immediately.

Avoid Parking by Trees

Trees are great in hot weather due to the shade they provide, but they can shed large amounts of pollen onto your car. We understand the benefits of parking beneath trees during the day but try to avoid it at night when the temperature cools down.

Use Fragrance-Free Cleaners

Heavily scented cleaners may possess unnecessary chemicals that don’t always increase their effectiveness, as far as cleaning is concerned. Though they may smell good, there’s a good chance that they’re heavily triggering your allergies. Try to avoid these if possible. Additionally, look at the ingredients in any cleaners you use. Even the most natural ones may possess ingredients you don’t necessarily vibe with.

Get Rid of Clutter

A variety of unwelcome guests just love the environment clutter provides. Piles of boxes and clothes are like welcome signs to dust mites and critters. Keeping things neat and orderly will help prevent your air from becoming further polluted.

Vacuum Regularly

Try to vacuum at least twice a week. Carpets hold on to a lot of things, which you’ll see as you watch your vacuum’s filter fill up. The more often you vacuum, the more your senses will thank you.
