The 48th Carey Ecumenical Christmas Concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay Street in Carey. The choir is co-directed by Jack Gerding and Patricia Murphy, and the accompanists for the choir are Joy Orians and Ruth Coldwell. Kate O’Reilly serves the choir as the secretary and rehearsal assistant.
This year’s choir is made up of 85 singers from 18 cities throughout northwest and central Ohio. Music for this year’s concert includes traditional melodies along with newly composed contemporary works based on traditional hymn texts. The Epworth Brass from Marion, along with the piano and the majestic organ of the Basilica, will join with the chorus to fill the church with the sounds of Christmas. A free-will offering will be collected during the concert to support the on-going ministry of the choir. The Shrine Cafeteria will be open for dinner immediately following the concert and the Shrine Gift Shop will also be open.
Come and prepare yourself for Christ’s birth as you listen to the sacred music of Advent and Christmas in the stunning acoustics and majesty of this historic Basilica and Shrine.
