“Edible Landfill” presented to J4T Program

The NB Public Library J4T- Just 4 Teens program invited all 5th-8th graders to savor an “Edible Landfill”, presented by Amanda Gamby of the Wood County Solid Waste Management District.
On Thursday, October 23rd, teens learned of the layers of a landfill, garbage disposal, and landfill maintenance while discovering many ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  Afterwards the teens were invited to eat the layers of garbage made up of m&m’s to cereal to pudding.

Also presented was “Freddy the Fish” at the NB Public Library after school program on Wednesday, October 22nd.  Children K-4th grade learned how Freddy the fish encountered the many pollutants that humans contribute to the lakes and rivers in Ohio.  Children watched as Freddy’s fish bowl started out clear and gradually became polluted through a series of waste added to the bowl as he traveled downstream.
