The North Baltimore High School Boys Basketball team battled Elmwood on Saturday night in The Jungle, with the Royals taking the Battle of the SouthWood on the Tigers turf.
NB dug themselves a hole in the 2nd quarter of this physical contest, with 6′ 7″ Tiger Senior, Chad Wright on the bench with 3 fouls. The visitors outscored the hosts 18 – 10, to take a 32 – 22 halftime lead.
The Tigers stayed within striking distance the 3rd quarter, cutting the lead to 46 – 37 after three periods. Hitting some key shots down the stretch, NB was able to get within two points during the final minute of the game.
NB had a shot to either extend or win the game at the buzzer. With 3.2 seconds to get a score, NB got the ball to Brody Naugle deep in the corner for a three that just missed the mark. Watson had a chance for the tie with a tip of the miss at the buzzer, but was too strong as he was falling away from the basket. NB ends up falling short 53 – 51.
Sophomore Julian Hagemyer led NB (1 – 1) with 14 points. Sean Watson scored 10 with 3 steals, Brody Naugle and Noah Brian 7 (4 assists and 3 steals) points each, Wright 6, Chase Naugle 5 and Noah Cotterman 2. Wright grabbed 11 rebounds, Watson 9.
For Elmwood (1 – 0): Deven Peter scored 14 pints, Jarrett Childress 10, Tayte Lentz 9, Trevor Solether 8, Zach Weiss and Brett Jones 6 each.
