Gene McDonald, age 70, of North Baltimore, died at 2:28pm on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
He was born on September 20, 1948, in Lincoln, NE to the late Jack and Katherine (Spence) McDonald. He married Gretchen Brumbaugh on June 14, 1980, and she survives.
Gene is also survived by his daughters: Jaimye (David) Benedict of North Baltimore and Molly (Kris Gilley) Ankney of Bowling Green; his brothers: Jack “Fritz” McDonald of Portland, OR, Rick (Betty) McDonald of Portland, OR and Tom (Karen) McDonald of Portland, OR; his beloved grandchildren: Makayla, Grace, Brooklyn, Addison and Maddox; and a son, Ryan McDonald of Findlay.
Gene retired from Rosenboom Tool and Die in Quality Control. He was previously employed at Atlas Crank Shaft, Fostoria. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, where he participated on the Air Force Softball Team. Gene was an avid softball player, and enjoyed golfing, fishing, sports, the Atlanta Braves and rooting on the Oregon Ducks. He loved watching his older granddaughters play softball, watching his twin granddaughters grow and amaze him throughout their lives, and was recently blessed with a grandson who adored him.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2018, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, with Pastor Phil Park-Thomas officiating. Burial will be in New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore, where full military rites will be conducted by the North Baltimore American Legion Post 539.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.
