Hancock-Wood Presents Fireworks Check

Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative, Inc., recently presented an over-sized $10,000 check to the North Baltimore Area Chamber of Commerce (NBACC) for the fireworks portion of the chamber’s annual Good Ole Summer Time (GOST) festival held this Saturday, July 30, in North Baltimore, at the Village Park.

The check presentation occurred at a special ceremony at the co-op’s corporate offices in North Baltimore, Ohio. Hancock-Wood Electric offices have been located within the community for 78 years. Its affiliate organization, Prism Propane Services of Northwest Ohio also plans to make a donation to the event.

At a recent chamber meeting, President and CEO George Walton announced Hancock-Wood planned to make the donation, saying, “This is a great opportunity for our electric cooperative to give back something significant to the community that supports our company year after year, especially in the year the chamber celebrates 100 years of advocating for businesses and serving village citizens.”

The amount of the donation drew a gasp and applause from chamber members.

Chamber President Bill Cameron said, “This is wonderful, we thank you for your generosity.”

According to the GOST Festival Committee, the event will include a 5K race, car show, golf and corn-hole tournaments, children’s rides and activities, bingo and musical performances by the Country Gold Review and the Loose Cannons. There is no cost for general admission and parking is free but some activities may have entry costs such as the tournaments.

The fireworks display is the grand finale of the event, scheduled to blast off (as presented by Kaboom Enterprises, Inc.) at dusk at Village Park, at 100 East Street. The event and pyrotechnics attract crowds from across northwest Ohio each year.

There is heart to this event in that the Area Chamber of Commerce does not keep all proceeds to defray its own operational costs. The car show benefits the Ronald McDonald House of northwest Ohio; the race benefits the North Baltimore Schools track program; the golf tournament funds scholarships for the North Baltimore Schools Alumni Association, and the bingo game proceeds go to the schools’ Music Boosters. North Baltimore Rotary Club sponsors the corn-hole tournament. There also is a flea/craft market.

Hancock-Wood, a nonprofit electric cooperative, is able to make this donation through the 50-percent matching marketing contribution of Touchstone Energy® Cooperative via facilitation by its statewide trade association, Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives,http://ohioec.org

Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative, established April 20, 1938, serves portions of Hancock, Wood, Allen, Erie, Hardin, Henry, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca and Wyandot counties. Throughout its history, the cooperative has supported local causes through charitable contributions, volunteerism and other activities to make a positive impact on quality of life within the communities it serves.
