Helen Kathleen “Kay” Bechtel, 89, of Findlay passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 surrounded by her family.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1925 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Charles and Mary (Lanham) Williams. She married Allen Bechtel on June 14, 1952 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 2009. She is survived by three daughters, Susan (Richard) Schemmer of Perrysburg, Ohio; Barbara (Kevin)
Swartz of Overland Park, Kansas and Beverly (James) Baney of Findlay; five grandchildren: Kelly and Scott Swartz; Bryant Schemmer; Andrew (Victoria) Baney and Christopher (Ashleigh) Baney and a great-grandson, Llewyn Baney. Also surviving her are a brother, Charles Williams and a sister, Beverly Barker. A brother, Paul Williams also preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Steubenville High School and worked as a secretary prior to marriage. Kay was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Pittsburgh Steeler fan; however, her favorite activity was attending her grandchildren’s sporting and musical events. She enjoyed traveling and family holidays. She was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church in North Baltimore.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor James Baney officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.
