The J4T (Just for Teens) after-school group that meets at the North Baltimore Public Library recently competed to see who could create the best healthy holiday snack.
On December 10th, the kids got to taste-test the winning snacks, as judged by the Family and Consumer Sciences Department of the Ohio State University Extension office of Wood County.
Sue Miklovic, of OSU in Wood County said, “I am really proud of these kids. I visit them at the library every month, and to have them get excited enough to come up with recipes and take the time to enter them is awesome. They had rules and directions to follow, and it had to be healthy. They did an great job!”
Morgan, Isabel and Aaneqa won Walmart gift cards for their entries.
After eating all the delicious snacks, the kids also participated in some relay races.
The spinach brownie featured frozen spinach, and carrot juice. (The kids thought it was delicious and ate the whole pan of brownies.) The oatmeal cookies featured bananas, almond milk, applesauce, and raisins.
