I would like to clarify a statement made by me about the junior high basketball program. At no point in my conversation with the coach did I mention I was a board member nor did I ever say I would change what was happening. I was strictly speaking as a fan. I am fortunate to have a grandson on the 8th grade team and he does play almost all of the time. My feelings are we have kids on both teams that work very hard and a few of them get very little playing time if any. It is only my personal belief that in the junior high program all players should get some playing time because this is where skills should be developed so they can be better prepared to play at the higher levels. I feel the reasons we have both a 7th grade and an 8th grade team is to afford more kids the opportunity to play.
I am writing in response to a statement I heard come from one of the nbhs school board members. it’s pretty obvious that this member doesn’t want any 7th graders playing up to the eighth grade level. Now it could just be ego but why would you say “I am on the school board and we will see about 7th grader playing up to eight grade” are you going to change something. Hey mrs school board member please remember to make sure everyone gets a trophy also, maybe that is the kind of thinking that has got us where we are today, behind the curve in athletics. Lucky I don’t have a grand child on the eight grade team.
