The Lady Tiger JV Softball team continues to impress after a slow start due to something out of their control. When playing their season opener against Otsego JV, our starting pitcher and number 5 hitter became sick and could not continue after the top of the first inning.
The girls had to play with eight and pressed a little too much and were beaten 14-3. The girls did go 9-18 at the plate but had to take an automatic out when the vacant 5 spot came up ending several small rallies. As luck would have it, they committed 4 errors in the game which helped some of Otsego’s rallies to continue. I was very proud of their efforts as we only had 8 girls on defense and most of the girls were playing “new” positions. Leading hitters for NB was Grace Rein and Makenna Ray with 2 hits each.
Our second game of the year went a whole lot better as the girls played at Van Buren on 4/14 and won 17-5. The girls went 22-37 at the plate and did not commit any errors in totally dominating the game. Leading hitters for NB were Makenna Ray 4-5 with 2 doubles and a triple, Katelyn Weinandy 3-4 with a double and Morgan Sams 4-4.
The Lady Tigers next opponent was Fairview JV on 4/21 and again came out smoking with another dominating win 11-1. The team went 14-29 at the plate and defensively had one error in 27 chances. Leading hitters for the Lady Tigers were Ray 3-4, Weinandy 3-4 with a double and triple, Sams 3-3 with a triple, and Allyson Hosley 2-3.
The Lady Tigers are next on the field 4/25 at home against Genoa JV at 11am.
