North Baltimore varsity girls improve their record to 2-0 defeating Fostoria St Wendelin 31-30 Tuesday night November 24th.
It was a low scoring game with the two teams being tied with just 18 points at halftime. For the 2nd half, St. Wendelin only scored 12 and NB scored 13, but that was enough for NB to get the big win. After 3 quarters of play the Lady Tigers only led by 3 being up 23 to 20, but with 1:37 left to go in the game St Wendelin was up by 5 over the Tigers. Then after a 3 by Frost, 2 free throws by Boyer, and then the final 2-pt shot by Powell to take the lead by 1 the Tigers went ahead 31 to 30, and St Wendelin could not answer with only 10.7 seconds left. Kiah Powell (6’0”) led the Tigers with 13 and Kamryn Troike (6’4”) led St Wendelin with 19 points.
Stat Summary for NB: Kiah Powell scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds to lead the Tigers. Olivia Frost scored 9 points with 8 rebounds; Bailey Boyer hit for 7 points and had 3 steals and Lacey Trumbull added two points.
NB Coach Adam Burris comments:
“This was a great gut check win for us, I asked them in the 4th quarter if they want to be a average team or a great team and I think they answered that in the 4th quarter, because last year we would have lost this game but this year is different, we’re hungry this year. This was a team win all the way, we can celebrate this win for tonight but we start to focus on Perry who we play on Monday night at home. Thanks for all the fans that came out to support the girls!”
