Tuesday was supposed to be an exciting day in North Baltimore with the baseball and softball teams slated to hold opening day festivities at their beautiful new complex. Unfortunately as often happens in Northwestern Ohio in March, Mother Nature had other plans. However the Lady Tigers were able to shift their game to Tontogany to play a home game on Otsego’s field.
The resilient Lady Tigers (2-0) wasted no time worrying about where they were playing, they just wanted to hit, and hit they did. A quick 6 run rally in the first inning and 4 more in the second led North Baltimore to a 12-6 victory over a very good Otsego softball team.
The Lady Tigers were equally as impressive on the defensive side of the game with a gutsy performance in the circle from sophomore pitcher Jasmine McNett and several highlight plays from a very stingy North Baltimore defense.
WP – Jasmine McNett (1-0)
Top Hitters: Katelyn Weinandy 2-1B; Paige Hyatt 2-2B, 2 RBI; Allison Kepling 1B, 2B, 4 RBI
On Wednesday the 2016 BVC champions traveled to Pandora-Gilboa to begin the defense of their league title. On a cold and windy night junior pitcher Katelyn Weinandy was able to post a 3 hit shutout against the Rockets with seven strikeouts and some very solid defense behind her. The Tiger offense struggled at times but led by Senior Bailey Boyer going 3-4 with two doubles and a single they were about to plate 5 runs for a solid 5-0 victory over the Rockets.
NB Record: 3-0 / 1-0
WP – Katelyn Weinandy (2-0)
Top hitters: Bailey Boyer 1B, 2-2B, RBI; Paige Hyatt 1B, 2 RBI; Makayla Light 1B, RBI; Allison Kepling 1B
