Mike Davin, Legislative Assistant to Congressman Bob Latta, came to the North Baltimore Public Library on April 18, 2017.
The North Baltimore Public Library is a member of the Library of Congress’ Surplus Books Program. In the fifth District, Congressman Latta, has Mike contact libraries, get information about their patrons’ reading needs, and then choose books to send to each library. The Surplus Books Program is just what it sounds like. “The Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., sets aside all books not needed for its own uses for distribution to qualifying organizations across the country”. Mike has been in contact with Director Lori Brogan in a joint effort to send books that are individual to our community’s reading needs. Mike contacted Lori to set up a time to stop in at the N.B. Public library when he would be in the area.
This was a great opportunity for Mike to not only get a feel for the library’s collection but for us to show off our wonderful library!
The North Baltimore Library continues to strive to meet all of our community information needs and this chance to get free books is a great opportunity.
