On Saturday, March 17th, ten of our scouts from Pack #372 participated in Countywide Derby action. Representing our Webelos Two group was Mitchell Novak and Isaiah Boyce. For Webelos One, Noah Vanlerberg and Daniel Hinkle joined in on the fun. Ian Ramirez and Boden Lanham participated for our Bear den. Wolves were represented by Camden McCartney and Levi Vanlerberg, and our Tigers had some really great races thanks to Donivan Boyce and Gabe Berger.
The Webelos One and Two groups were welcome to register beginning at 9:00 at the host school, Eastwood Middle School. Two separate tracks allowed both dens to race simultaneously. Boys each had two total races, and the winners were chosen by the average of two timed races. Typically twenty Wood County kids raced for each den. And only one car was sent sailing off the track. One car was assessed a penalty that not even Jeff Gordan could have come back from. Sorry Isaiah Boyce. That was hard to watch. At noon, The Wolves and Bears got their motors running, and Tigers raced at 2:00. Awards were given immediately following each race. Time was allotted for concession stand delights, and I personally can recommend the homemade muffins, and my kids finished off their weight in brownies.
Our only hardware for the evening came from Mitchell Novak’s first place win for the Webelos Two Den. Donivan Boyce was just edged out for a trophy (first three places) when he brought home 5th. Gabe Berger had an excellent showing at 10th, Isaiah Boyce’s car jumped off to 12th place, Camden McCartney came in 16th, as did Daniel Hinkle, and both Vanlerberg boys, Noah and Levi, each came in 17th. Congratulations, scouts. Now on to Camp Berry!
Congratulations to all the Scouts!
