It’s March and in Wood County, that means it’s time to celebrate
Each year, during March – Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month – Wood Lane focuses on peoples’ abilities and similarities and encourages everyone to welcome people with developmental disabilities into their communities.
The agency’s annual billboards and downtown Bowling Green banners promote the theme “Everyone Belongs.” Wood Lane Superintendent Melanie Stretchbery said, “Wood Lane is fortunate to belong to a community that lives and breathes the meaning of DD Month every day. Here in Wood County, this theme is embraced; we look at March as month to celebrate that.”

March 9th-16th Wood County schools have pledged to take part in an awareness program called #WoodLanePride. The program will reach over 6,200 students.
Participating schools will receive a plush Wood Lane Wildcat (the mascot for Wood Lane School is a wildcat). Students will take pictures with the wildcat at different activities and post them on Facebook and Twitter with #WoodLanePride. The goal of the program is to help students recognize that an individual with a developmental disability can do the same things that they can do. The school with the most posts will win! Participating schools include: Wood Lane School, Otsego, Northwood, Perrysburg, Lake, Bowling Green, St. Louis, St. Aloysius, and The Montessori School of BG.
Wood County Library Display
Beginning on March 7, Wood County Library (WCL) visitors will enjoy several displays celebrating our community and DD Month. The WCL entrance will be decorated with canvases that were created by the community at the 2014 Black Swamp Arts Festival during Wheel Chair Painting. Also on display will be a mural created at the Wood Lane Industries.
In addition, there will be an interactive display for children in conjunction with the #WoodLanePride program. The display will feature several plush wildcats, as well as an interactive 3-foot sign where children have their picture taken as a Wood Lane Wildcat. Pictures from that display can be shared on Facebook or Twitter with the #WoodLanePride for a chance to win a Wood Lane wildcat!
Special Olympics at Buffalo Wild Wings
