TOLEDO Ohio, Dec. 9, 2015 – The season of giving is upon us, and for the dogs and cats at Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet, there is no greater gift than the gift of a loving, permanent home. The animals come to the shelter from all over – maybe not as far as the North Pole – but from places throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. They all have different stories like a black female cat named Holiday who was found at the Holiday Inn in Bowling Green. They all have different reasons why they ended up at the shelter like charcoal grey female kittens Morgan and Mel whose new owner was accepted into the Marines shortly after rescuing them from a bad situation. And they all have one thing in common; their greatest wish is a home for the holidays.
Santa does have good news to share: Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet is offering a “Bring Joy to Their World” holiday cat adoption special. The adoption fee for all cats and kittens is $25 (normally $75) for the entire month of December. The cat adoption fee includes the spay or neuter, vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment and testing for FIV and leukemia.
Shelter Manager Lisa McKenzie says “We’ve done a lot of intake lately so we’re offering the holiday adoption special in an effort to send lots of cats home for the holidays and make room for more cats in need, especially as we head farther into winter when we’ll get lots of calls about friendly stray cats. We’re really hopeful that some of our longer residents, our senior cats and our black cats – who often get overlooked by adopters – will get their happy endings.”
McKenzie goes on to say “We also have some really special cats who would love to start the new year in their very own home. A couple who come to mind are Ollie who is pure white and deaf, and Gus who is diabetic and requires daily insulin injections, and Bubba who is FIV positive so his immune system isn’t as strong as a normal cat; it might take him longer to recover if he gets something like an upper respiratory infection or ear infection.”
Potential adopters can stop by Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet at 5250 Hill Avenue (at Reynolds) Wednesday through Saturday from 12 – 5 pm or visit cats in the in-store adoption center at Petco at Monroe/Talmadge during store hours. The non-profit organization also has about 10 dogs available for adoption, but the “Bring Joy to Their World” $25 adoption price applies to cats and kittens only.
Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet, a non-profit organization – founded in 1978 – provides shelter, spay/neuter services and veterinary care to dogs and cats throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan while they await adoption in a free-roaming shelter environment with an outdoor cattery and fenced dog yard. The group also helps pet parents and people caring for community cats with spay/neuter and veterinary care through a spay/neuter fund and a Vet-A-Pet fund.
Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet is a member agency of Northwest Ohio Community Shares, a workplace giving program benefitting 26 local non-profit organizations which address some of the most pressing issues facing our community today: animal welfare, health and human services, education and the arts, the environment and social justice and peace.
