TOLEDO Ohio, Oct. 28, 2016 – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet is offering a cat adoption special. Now through November, the adoption fee for all cats and kittens is $10 (normally $75) for breast cancer survivors and families currently affected by the disease. The cat adoption fee includes the spay or neuter, vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment and testing for FIV and leukemia.
Board President Lori Friedes says “Our shelter manager was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and she’s already found a way to use her personal situation to inspire positive action by dreaming up this adoption special. She knows that a furry best friend can be a nice distraction and something positive to focus on; the Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet team looks forward to helping families bring a lot of smiles, laughs and companionship into their lives.”
Friedes goes on to say “This adoption special is also an opportunity to send more cats home in time for the holidays and make room for other cats in need. We have so many wonderful cats of all ages and some with extra special stories. A couple who come to mind are Ollie who is pure white and deaf, Emma who is seven years old and one of our longest shelter residents – she adores people and other cats! – and a kitten named Oliver who was hit by a car and has neurological damage that causes his one front paw to curl under.”
Potential adopters can stop by Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet at 5250 Hill Avenue (at Reynolds) Wednesday through Saturday from 12 – 5 pm. The non-profit organization also has dogs available for adoption, but the $10 adoption price applies to cats and kittens only.
Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet, a non-profit organization founded in 1978, provides shelter, spay/neuter services and veterinary care to dogs and cats throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan while they await adoption in a free-roaming shelter environment with an outdoor cattery and fenced dog yard. The group also helps pet parents and people caring for community cats with spay/neuter and veterinary care through a spay/neuter fund and a Vet-A-Pet fund.
Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet is a member agency of Northwest Ohio Community Shares, a workplace giving program benefitting 26 local non-profit organizations which address some of the most pressing issues facing our community today: animal welfare, health and human services, education and the arts, the environment and social justice and peace.
