MAUMEE VALLEY SAVE-A-PET OFFERS “FIND YOUR LUCKY CHARM” ADOPTION SPECIAL!

TOLEDO, Ohio, March 2, 2016 – St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and a special group of cats – the black cats and the black and white cats at Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet (there are about 20 of them) – are hoping to get lucky.  These cats have come to the shelter from all over – maybe not as far as Ireland – but from places throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.  They all have different stories like a black female cat named Holiday who was found at the Holiday Inn in Bowling Green.  They all have different reasons why they ended up at the shelter like a long haired black cat named Missy who shared her home with a little boy who developed severe cat allergies.  And they all have one thing in common; they’re hoping their luck is about to change.

There is good news at the end of the rainbow:  Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet is offering a “Find Your Lucky Charm” adoption special for black cats and black and white cats.  Adopters will be able to reach into a “pot o’ gold” and pull out a discount that will make the adoption fee anywhere from FREE to $40 (normally $75) for the entire month of March.  The cat adoption fee includes the spay or neuter, vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment and testing for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and leukemia.

Shelter Manager Lisa McKenzie says “At Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet, we think black cats are lucky so we’re celebrating the whole month of March.  We’re offering the adoption special to shine a deserving spotlight on the cats who often get overlooked by adopters either because people are superstitious about black cats or because the more colorful and uniquely marked animals stand out more.  This is an opportunity to find a happily ever after for some of our longest shelter residents and to make room for more cats in need as we head into spring and kitten season.”

McKenzie goes on to say “We also have two really special cats who will be a part of the adoption special – a black cat named Granger, and a black and white cat with a striking black nose patch named Bubba.  Both of these boys are FIV positive so their immune system isn’t as strong as a normal cat; it might take them longer to recover if they get something like an upper respiratory infection or ear infection.”

Potential adopters can stop by Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet at 5250 Hill Avenue (at Reynolds) Wednesday through Saturday from 12 – 5 pm.  The non-profit organization has about 75 cats and 10 dogs available for adoption, but the “Meet Your Lucky Charm” cat adoption promotion applies to black cats and black and white cats only.

Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet, a non-profit organization founded in 1978 , provides shelter, spay/neuter services and veterinary care to dogs and cats throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan while they await adoption in a mostly cage free shelter environment with an outdoor cattery and fenced dog yard.  The group also helps pet parents and people caring for community cats with spay/neuter and veterinary care through a spay/neuter fund and a Vet-A-Pet fund.

Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet is a member agency of Northwest Ohio Community Shares, a workplace giving program benefitting 26 local non-profit organizations which address some of the most pressing issues facing our community today: animal welfare, health and human services, education and the arts, the environment and social justice and peace.
