North Baltimore Local School District Vocal Music Instructor, Emily Meyerson, will be presenting her Annual Benefit Recital this weekend. Stop by this Saturday for an enjoyable afternoon of music, along with special guests, Janet Goldner on the piano and NB Band Director, Ben Pack, on the clarinet.
On Saturday May 9th at 3:00 pm, soprano Emily Meyerson and pianist Janet Goldner will present a collaborative recital at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Second Street. The first half of the recital will feature prominent arias from three operas by Puccini, Mozart and Verdi; Lieder from Schubert, as well as some sacred music. The second half will be much lighter featuring several jazz standards, and musical theatre pieces.
A free-will offering will be taken with 100% of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society via Relay for Life. There will also be refreshments available immediately following the concert.
Emily Meyerson is in her fifth year as vocal music teacher at North Baltimore Local Schools. Emily teaches general music for preschool through grade six and directs the Middle School Choir, High School Choir, Powell Show Choir, Junior Varsity A Cappella Ensemble and Varsity A Cappella Ensemble. In addition, Emily advises the Drama Club.
Emily graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music degree. She is a self-taught cellist and studied voice privately with Joan Cano, Myra Merritt, Jean Bruggeman-Kurp, and coached with Douglas Wayland, Kevin Bylsma and Jane Rodgers. Emily has appeared with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and the Bowling Green State University Philharmonia. Emily has been a featured guest soloist in various locations throughout Northern Ohio and toured in 2010 with Bella Voci di camera under the direction of William Skoog. Emily currently enjoys singing in the St. Luke’s Senior Choir, and with her amazing collaborative pianist, the fabulous Ms. Goldner.
Janet Goldner is a 1975 graduate of NBHS and started as the organist at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church during high school. Following high school she attended Bowling Green State University, received a Bachelor of Music degree in 1979 and taught her first year of elementary music here in North Baltimore. In 1995 she returned to BGSU and earned her Master’s of Education in guidance and counseling and shifted her career focus. Janet recently retired after 31 years in education teaching elementary and middle school music as well as counseling and guidance at the elementary and high school levels. Currently Janet is the organist and Senior Choir director at St. Luke’s and the president of North Baltimore Village Council.
