NAMI of Wood County to Host Free Education Night

On November 17 NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Wood County will offer a free education night at the Wood County Public Library in Bowling Green from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

The event will provide an introduction to NAMI Wood County and programs it offers to local families affected by mental illness. Classes include Family-To-Family, Peer-to-Peer, NAMI Basics, and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan.) Support groups for family members, peers, and caregivers also meet regularly.

For nearly thirty years, NAMI Wood County has provided advocacy, education, and support to people living with mental illness in Wood County and their families. One of over 1,100 NAMI affiliates nationwide, the organization gives free classes on mental illnesses, treatments, and how to use local services.

Support groups allow family and friends of those with mental illness to learn coping skills and help each other.

NAMI was founded in the United States in the 1970s by families urgently needing help navigating the mental health system. Nationally, the organization and its affiliates have built a network of support for families who feel isolated by these illnesses and the stigma that still haunts them. It has advocated for legislation that makes mental health care more available and affordable.

All NAMI Wood County classes and groups are free of charge. For more information on the NAMI education night and other offerings, please contact NAMI Wood County at 419-352-0626 or www.namiwoodcounty.org.
