NAMI Basics is an educational program for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. It covers the fundamentals of caring for yourself, for your family and for your child. This class meets for six sessions, two and a half hours each time.
Like many of NAMI’s programs, NAMI Basics is free of charge and taught by trained teachers who are family caregivers of individuals who developed symptoms of mental illness as children. This program incorporates presenters, discussion time and exercises. Consider attending this class to gain current research on treatments, preparation for interaction with the metal health care system, school system and juvenile justice system.
NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grass roots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI Wood County and dedicated volunteer members and leaders work tirelessly to raise awareness and provide essential education, advocacy and support group programs for people in our community living with mental illness and their loved ones.
