The 2016-2017 Tiger basketball team won the AYBT Green Division Title on Sunday in Grand Rapids Michigan, beating Flint, Michigan’s Holton Heat 41-32. The Tigers were 3-3 leading into the single elimination tournament on Sunday playing against some tough AAU and all-star teams from around the Midwest, many of these teams were from schools much larger than North Baltimore.
The wins were solid and the losses were very close. Playing well against larger schools and AAU teams allowed the Tigers to earn a bye going into the single elimination tournament portion of the weekend.
This year’s team were seniors: Taylor Bishop and Noah Brian, Juniors: Noah Cotterman, Adam Flores, Julian Hagemyer, and Chase Naugle, Sophmore: Brady Rader. Rounding out the team, filling a last minute hole in the roster, was our secret weapon: Johnny Hagemyer. The team is coached by John Kloepher, Andy Rader, and Joey Hagemyer.
The annual event, which features about 300 teams from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois, has been played in Fort Wayne, Indiana for the past 12 years. The AYBT is a summer tournament series for boys’ and girls’ basketball players in grades 3-12, competing in a 5-on-5 format. The tournaments are based in the Midwest and east coast of the U.S.
