Sara Casey and her market hog, Duke, were crowned Reserve Champion at the 2017 Wood County Fair. The judging took place on Friday, August 4, where Sara showed her three market hogs. Sara’s gilt (Daisy) received a rosette ribbon, being named heavy weight gilt reserve champion and 5th overall gilt in the morning show. In the afternoon, Duke was chosen as champion middle weight market barrow, overall champion market barrow and finally placed second overall out of approximately 250 hogs at the fair, receiving the Reserve Champion title.
Sara spent many long hours caring for her 4-H animals, which included her pigs – Daisy, Duke and Boss Hog and a market goat named Felix. This was Sara’s first year raising and showing a market goat and her third year with market hogs. She received 2nd place in first year showmanship with her goat and 5th in showmanship with her pigs.
Sara is a member of Country Paws 4-H Club and will be a 6th grader at Powell Elementary this fall.
