School Board Member Russell Bretz, Sr. submits a monthly recap and notes from the regular meeting of the North Baltimore Local Board of Education was held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 6:00pm in the MS/HS Complex.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the recognition of the magnificent painting by Silvio Manuel Jiminez Garcia at the entrance to the MS/HS driveway. This project was initiated by Donna Naugle with donations from the American Legion Post 539 and the American Legion Post 539 Women’s Auxiliary as well as other private donations. The painting is a 3-D rendition of a Tiger that appears to be coming up out of the driveway. It took several days to complete and is quite impressive.
Other highlights included the mention by the Superintendent, Ryan Delaney of the progress on the baseball and softball fields and the completion of the work done on the new football field. He noted that the sod for the football field was all laid and the grading work was completed with the help of many, many volunteers and Casey’s, who did the grading work.
After administrative reports and a brief report by Treasurer, Eve Baldwin, the Board moved to regular agenda items.
Superintendent’s Recommendations:
Approve an additional medical leave of absence to Scott Lockwood, Elementary Principal, using his accumulated sick leave days as needed through September 24, 2015.
Approved a maternity leave of absence to Megan Hernandez, Elementary Teacher, from approximately October 19, 2015 through December 3, 2015, using her accumulated sick leave, personal leave and unpaid leave as needed.
Approved a maternity leave of absence to Holli Satler, Intervention Specialist, beginning approximately December 1, 2015 for six weeks using her accumulated sick leave, personal leave and unpaid leave as needed.
Approved a long term Classified Substitute Contract with the Wood County ESC for Charles Scherdt for the 2015-16 school year at a cost of approximately $5,476.
Approved the following certified supplemental contracts as after-school tutors for the 2015-16 school year at the current $20 per hour rate on an as needed basis:

Nicole Lang
Katy Dauer
Approve the following change to a supplemental for the 2014-15 school year for Zach Walls, Assistant Football Coach from 50% to 75% at pay step I.
Approved the following supplemental contracts for the 2015 school year at the appropriate step:
Arica Matthes – 8th grade Class Advisor
Steve Green – Powell Outdoor Education
Melanie Missler – Powell Outdoor Education
Rachel Smith – Powell Outdoor Education
Approved the following classified substitutes for the 2015-16 school year on an as needed basis:
Diane Blake – Par/Prof Aide
Kenneth Gerig – Para/Prof Aide
Racheal Zygela – Cafeteria
Coleen Karpuleon – Aide
Approved participation in the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy for the 2015-16 school year at a cost of $358.50.
Approved the following adult organized groups that function for the purpose of giving support to the official programs in the schools for the 2015-16 school year:
Powell Parents Club
North Baltimore Sports Boosters
North Baltimore Band & Choir Boosters
Approved a resolution to waive Career-Technical Education for 7th and 8th Grade students for the 2015-16 school year.
Approved a North Baltimore Career Advising Policy.
Approved the North Baltimore Schools Vision Rates.
Recognized a donation from Hancock Wood Electric for a switch and labor at the football field at an approximate value of $295.
