The North Baltimore High School Boys Basketball team got a big win in The Jungle Tuesday night, as they knocked off 4 – 0 McComb 54 – 52. Noah Brian nailed a “catch and shoot” 3 – pointer from the right wing with about 14 seconds to go for NB’s final lead.
NB hung close with the Panthers for the entire game, down one after the first quarter and tied at 26 at the half. However, in the 3rd quarter it looked as though McComb might open up a big lead, moving ahead 38 – 33.
But the Tigers worked hard, showed patience and worked the ball into the big man (Chad Wright) who had a game high 27 points, along with 11 rebounds, and NB outscored McComb 21 – 14 in the final period.
NB finally tied the game with 59 second to play at 48, but McComb would hit 2 free throws to take the lead 50 – 48. On the Tigers next possession the ball was worked into Chad Wright who missed from close range, but grabbed his own rebound and got a put-back to tie the game 50 – 50.
McComb would then hit a jumper with 32 seconds to play to take the lead 52 – 50. NB inbounded, worked the ball up and around, looking for an opening into Wright. Nothing opened up and on a swing pass to a wide open Noah Brian, he stopped and popped for the game winning trey, with 14 seconds to go.
McComb would still get off a good look from 24 feet that just missed with 5 seconds left. Watson was fouled on the rebound and then hit the front end of the one and one with 2.3 seconds to go.
McComb has the ball, on the 2nd missed foul shot by Watson, with 1.7 seconds and calls a time-out. On the ensuing play, McComb lined up to run their play and NB’s Coach Kloepfer calls time out to adjust his defensive set. McComb gets the ball in and does get a 2/3 court shot off, which does hit the rim, for a final groan from the McComb fans.
Sean Watson had another solid effort with 14 points. Noah Brian hit 5 points, including the game winner, along with 8 assists. Noah Cotterman had 5 points with some very strong minutes coming off of the bench. Brady Rader added 3 points. Julian Hagemyer, Taylor Bishop, Chase Naugle and Brody Naugle also played important roles in the big team win for NB, who is now 4 – 4 and 2 – 2 in the BVC.
