Are you looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday night? Well, you can spend Saturday, April 28th from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. dancing and raising money for a good cause all at the same time! North Baltimore High School’s very own club, Paws for a Cause, will be hosting a Zumba Marathon in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Paws for a Cause is a community service club at NBHS that was started by five senior students and the junior and senior English teacher, Ms. Stefanie Lauer in 2014. By the end of its inaugural year it contained 15 students. In the current school year, the club has grown to over 40 students who are constantly looking for more ways to give back to their community.
The first Zumba Marathon was held in 2015 by Z Pulse from Findlay and Fostoria, OH and Kathy Kapostasy. Unfortunately, this past October Kathy lost her courageous and grace-filled battle against cancer. Because of this, the students have decided all proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in Kathy’s memory and honor.
Since the funds this year will be going to cancer research, we are also planning on having a currently fighting, honoring survivors, and memory wall present that night. If you wish to have a loved ones name included, please email Ms. Lauer at [email protected] specifying what section they should be in, the correct spelling of the name, their type of cancer, and a picture if you wish for that as well.
For this year’s Zumba Marathon, Z Pulse from Findlay, OH has agreed to graciously donate their time to lead the dances. All ages are able to participate in this fun event! For those who don’t prefer dancing but still want to participate, there will be some seating available. The marathon will be held in the auditoria of the North Baltimore High School, located at 2012 Tiger Drive, North Baltimore, Ohio 45872.
If you would like to be entered into our contest, you can form a team for this year’s Zumba Marathon. Teams should consist of 2-6 people, and you can pre-register with team name and form to Ms. Lauer at [email protected]. All money raised can just be brought to the event and turned in that night. Whichever team raises the most money will win a prize. If you do not wish to be part of a team, you can simply pay a donation at the door to be allowed in for the night. If you wish to order a shirt ahead of time, please also email Ms. Lauer at [email protected] Shirts can also be paid for at the event. Doors open at 6:30 the night of the event and a brief introduction for the cause will be given shortly after.
We hope to see everyone there!
