On Veterans Day, last Wednesday, several North Baltimore area Veterans spent the afternoon at North Baltimore High School, where the National Honor Society students led a ceremony in their honor.
Under the direction of teacher Mallory Huffman, the students gave brief remarks, explaining the different military conflicts our veterans may have participated in during their years of service.
Following a somber moment that included remembering those who were MIA, POW’s, or killed in action, student Kiah Powell played “Taps” while those in attendance respectfully stood.
Dr. Bob Falkenstein told a story of patriotism that was part of his life as a college student, that involved a gift of a flag, which he received from his veteran father. His dad and mother were present for the event Wednesday. Dr. Bob made sure the students were aware of the sacrifice the whole family makes when their loved one is serving their country in the military.
Next the students held a brief question and answer session, with the veterans present willingly answering their questions.
The students asked the questions………
The Veterans responded……..
The event concluded with all the students, several of the teachers, administrators, and a few staff members forming a line to offer personal words of thanks and appreciation for all the sacrifices made by the guests and their families.
The event was open to the community.
