NCAA Division I Official and NBHS Alumnus to Speak at Toledo Event

University of Findlay’s Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents and Friends will welcome Terry Wymer, 1982 UF graduate and NCAA Division I referee, to speak at a 6 p.m. reception at the Toledo Country Club on March 31 in the River Room.

“We’re looking forward to hearing about his experiences as an NCAA official and interactions with top coaches,” said Dee Dee Spraw, director of the Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents and Friends.

Wymer, who graduated from North Baltimore High School in 1977, has worked three Big Ten tournament championship games, as well as 10 Mid-American Conference Championship games and 15 Summit League Championship games. He has worked a number of post-season tournament games including the National Invitational Tournament and has officiated 13 of the last 14 NCAA tournaments. He advanced to the Regional Sweet 16 and Elite Eight on eight occasions, and worked the 2013 Final Four semi-final in Atlanta, Georgia, and the 2014 Final Four semi-final in Dallas, Texas. He currently officiates in the Big Ten Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Mid-American Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, The Horizon League, Atlantic 10 Conference and Summit League.

Last year, Wymer received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the University of Findlay’s Athletic Hall of Fame Brunch. While at Findlay College, he was a member of the 1979 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national championship football team in 1979 and earned three baseball letters as the Oilers’ first baseman. Because he did not commit an error during the 1982 season, Wymer’s name still appears in UF’s baseball records. He also provided a potent right-handed bat for the Oilers, and twice earned NAIA All-District 22 honors. Wymer’s attention turned to basketball officiating in 1984, and he worked games for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and later committed to NCAA Division I officiating in 1993, starting in the Mid-American Conference.

The reception on March 31 will also include a University update from President Katherine Fell, Ph.D. Those interested in attending must register online at www.findlay.edu/events or the Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents and Friends at 419-434-4516.
