NB Eagles donate to NW Ohio Sled Hockey Team

The Northwest Ohio Sled Hockey Team received a donation of $3000 from the John W. Sterling Fraternal Order of the Eagles, North Baltimore Aerie 2633. The generous donation is to help support the NWO Sled Hockey program which provides people with physical disabilities the opportunity to play hockey.

This new team is comprised of 12 young people ages 5-19 from all over Northwest Ohio.  Practices are held on Sundays from 10-11 am at the BGSU Ice Arena.  Anyone with a physical disability that prevents them from playing stand up hockey is welcome to come and try sled hockey!  Our season goes through the end of April and it’s never too late to join!  If you would like more information on playing or supporting this team, please email General Manager, Stephanie Rine at [email protected].

Benny and Jay, with Jay’s grandson Jaydon Jenkins who also plays on the NWO Sled Hockey team.  Jaydon is a 5^th grader at Elmwood Elementary.  Jaydon is playing in his 3^rd season and aspires to be a Paralympic sled hockey player some day!

If you are not familiar with sled hockey, it is a competitive form of ice hockey for people with a physical disability that prevents them from being able to play stand up hockey.  It is a Paralympic Sport and is fully competitive and intense!

As noted above, our team is open to anyone who has a physical disability from the age of 5 up through adulthood.  It is amazing to see wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and prosthetic legs all lined up outside the ice while the athletes are in sleds and all on a “level” playing field for this game!
