Highway Construction – Week of July 18, 2016
The following is work scheduled to occur in the coming week on state highways within the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 which includes the counties of Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Wyandot. For the latest in statewide construction visit www.ohgo.com.

Allen County
Interstate 75 from the Auglaize County line to Fourth Street, through Lima and Allen County, will have occasional lane closures throughout the year during the final year of the reconstruction of the interstate. Current and upcoming impacts to traffic are as follows:
- Lane closures are occurring throughout the project both northbound and southbound for work in the median.
- Traffic on I-75 north and south of the Ohio 65 interchange area continues to travel in a contraflow pattern where two southbound lanes and one northbound lane of traffic are traveling on the southbound side of the interstate, and one northbound lane is traveling on the northbound side of the interstate. Traffic will remain in this pattern until late summer.
- Traffic on I-75 northbound will continue to be reduced to one lane through the contraflow zone Monday through Friday for approximately the next three weeks, from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, for drainage and bridge work.
- The exit ramp from northbound Interstate 75 to Ohio 65 will likely be closed during these same hours Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
- Traffic will be detoured north on Interstate 75 to Fourth Street to Interstate 75 southbound to Ohio 65.
- On Friday, July 15 at 7 p.m., the right, northbound lane through the Ohio 65 interchange area will be closed until approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, July 18 during pouring and curing of the concrete for the bridge deck at the interchange.
- During the operation, the northbound entrance and exit ramp at Ohio 65 will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 15 until approximately 3 a.m. the following morning.
- Exit ramp traffic will be detoured north on Interstate 75 to Fourth Street to Interstate 75 southbound back to Ohio 65.
- Entrance ramp traffic will be detoured south on Interstate 75 to Breese Road back to Interstate 75 northbound.
- During the operation, the northbound entrance and exit ramp at Ohio 65 will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 15 until approximately 3 a.m. the following morning.
- The exit ramp from northbound Interstate 75 to Ohio 65 will likely be closed during these same hours Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
- Heavy truck traffic will be present throughout the project for the next several weeks, especially in the area of the Ohio 65 interchange and the Yoder Road area, near the Orthopedic Institute of Ohio complex.
- Paving of the final layer of asphalt throughout the project is expected to take place in late July and early August.
Additional Allen County projects:
Interstate 75 exit and entrance ramps at Bluelick Road will be closed on July 18 between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for a bridge inspection and pavement and guardrail repairs. Work is being performed by the ODOT Allen County maintenance garage.
Interstate 75 northbound will be restricted to one lane at the Ohio 696 interchange on July 19 and July 20 for pavement repairs. The restriction will be in place during daytime hours only. Work is being performed by the ODOT Allen County maintenance garage.
Ohio 309 will be impacted by several projects throughout the construction season as follows:
- Ohio 309 (Elida Road) from Robb Avenue to Cole Street, Lima, is restricted for reconstruction of the curb and gutter, upgrade of traffic signals and resurfacing of the roadway. The continuous turn from eastbound Ohio 309 to Grand Avenue was permanently closed on March 14. Work is being performed by Smith Paving, Norwalk.
- Drainage, curb replacement, resurfacing and pavement marking work is now complete.
- Reconstruction of two traffic signals at Rosedale Ave. and Cole St. is ongoing and may result in short-term lane restrictions.
- Ohio 309 (Elida Road) from Eastown Road to U.S. 30, including the village of Elida, is restricted for widening, curb and gutter installation, drainage improvements and resurfacing. The project will continue through the fall. Work is being performed by VTF Excavation LLC, Celina.
The following impacts are occurring or upcoming. Traffic patterns will change frequently:
- Work to patch and pave on Ohio 309 from west of Elida to U.S. 30, Delphos, has been suspended and will resume the week of July 25. Paving of the final layer of asphalt will take place at the end of August.
- Ohio 309 eastbound from Pioneer Road to East Road is maintained with two lanes westbound and one eastbound. The turn lane is maintained as well.
- Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction at various locations through this area for drainage installation. The restrictions will be in place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Traffic delays should be expected.
- Traffic patterns will change frequently through this section.
- Traffic will be flagged through the intersection of East Road and Ohio 309 for one day during the week for drainage work.
- Ohio 309 (Harding Highway) from Bowman Road, Lima, to Ohio 235, Ada, closed June 6 until mid-August for culvert replacements at several locations. Access to area residences will be maintained. Through traffic will be detoured onto Ohio 235, Ohio 81 and Interstate 75 back to Ohio 309. Work is being performed by R.D. Jones Excavating, Harrod.
- The entire length of roadway is closed to through traffic. Those not residing within or traveling to a business within the project area will be subject to fines by law enforcement.
- Five of the 12 culvert replacements have been completed.
- The project is on schedule to be completed by mid August, prior to the opening of the Allen County fair.
Ohio 65, Ohio 81, Ohio 117 and Ohio 309 pavement repair and resurfacing project will have the following impacts to traffic in the coming weeks. Work is being performed by Shelly Company, Lima:
- Paving has been completed. Installation of pavement reflectors and final pavement markings will take place in the coming weeks with traffic maintained through the work zone on Ohio 65/81 (North St.) between Jameson Avenue and Jackson Street, Ohio 117 (Spencerville Rd./Woodlawn Ave.) between Seriff Road and Elm Street, Ohio 117 between Ohio 309 (Harding Hwy.) and just east of Greely Chapel Road, and Ohio 309 (Jameson Ave.) between Cole Street and North Street.
Ohio 117 and Ohio 501 (Wapak Road) intersection realignment and widening project and construction of left-turn lanes on Ohio 117 began June 30. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton. The following impacts to traffic are occurring or upcoming:
- Wapak Road at the intersection of Ohio 117 closed July 5 and is expected to open by the end of the week, weather permitting.
- Ohio 501 south of Ohio 117 is expected to close on July 21 for approximately 30 days. Traffic will be detoured onto Ohio 117, Ohio 198 and back to Ohio 501.
Defiance County
Ohio 18 from the Ohio 15 split to Coy Road will be restricted with traffic maintained for a sweeping and painting project. Work is being performed by the ODOT Defiance County maintenance garage.
U.S. 24 throughout Defiance and Paulding County is restricted both eastbound and westbound at various locations throughout the corridor during repair of the concrete pavement. The project will likely require ramp closures at the interchanges. Work will continue through late summer. Work is being performed by Kokosing Construction, Columbus.
Hancock County
Ohio 37 between Township Road 166 and Township Road 37 is now open following a culvert replacement.
Interstate 75 between Perrysburg and County Road 99 north of Findlay will have the following restrictions through the fall during reconstruction and widening:
- Through November, overnight lane restrictions, generally from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., are possible on I-75 between the I-75/I-475 interchange in Perrysburg and County Road 99 in Hancock County. Through December, 11-foot lane width restrictions are in place on I-75 between U.S. 20 in Perrysburg and County Road 99 in Hancock County.
- Through December, Township Road 101 in Hancock County, between County Road 220 and Township Road 142, is closed for bridge work over I-75.
Hardin County
Ohio 31 between Township Road 240 and County Road 230, approximately one mile south of Mt. Victory, is open as of July 14 following a culvert replacement.
Ohio 309 will be impacted throughout the construction season as follows:
- Ohio 309 from County Road 171 just east of Kenton to the Marion County line is occasionally restricted through the work zone for resurfacing. The project is essentially complete with minor finish work still occurring. Work is being performed by Shelly Co., Findlay.
- Ohio 309 (Harding Highway) from Bowman Road, Lima, to Ohio 235, Ada, closed June 6 for approximately 70 days for culvert replacements at several locations. Access to area residences will be maintained. Through traffic will be detoured onto Ohio 235, Ohio 81 and Interstate 75 back to Ohio 309. Work is being performed by R.D. Jones Excavating, Harrod.
- The entire length of roadway is closed to through traffic. Those not residing within or traveling to a business within the project area will be subject to fines by law enforcement.
- Five of the 12 culvert replacements have been completed.
Paulding County
U.S. 127 south of Paulding to the Van Wert County line will be restricted with traffic maintained for a tile repair project. Work is being performed by the ODOT Paulding County maintenance garage.
Ohio 500 will be restricted with traffic maintained to prepare the road for an upcoming chip and seal project. Work is being performed by the ODOT Paulding County maintenance garage.
U.S. 24 throughout Defiance and Paulding County is restricted both eastbound and westbound at various locations throughout the corridor during repair of the concrete pavement. The project will likely require ramp closures at the interchanges. Work will continue through late summer. Work is being performed by Kokosing Construction, Columbus.
Ohio 500 and Ohio 613 intersection, east of the village of Payne, is now open following a railroad repair.
Ohio 637 between County Road 126 and County Road 138 closed on July 11 for approximately five days for a culvert replacement. Traffic will be detoured onto Ohio 613, Ohio 66 and back to Ohio 637. Work is being performed by the ODOT Paulding County maintenance garage.
Ohio 637 between Road 138 and Road 146 closed on July 11 for approximately 30 days for a culvert replacement. Traffic will be detoured onto Ohio 613, Ohio 66 and back to Ohio 637. Work is being performed by VTF Excavation.
Putnam County
Ohio 109 between Road E and Ohio 613, east of Miller City, will be closed on July 25 for approximately five days for a railroad repair. Traffic will be detoured onto Ohio 613, Ohio 108, Ohio 18 and back to Ohio 109. Work is being performed by Roadsafe Traffic.
Ohio 65 between East Broadway Street and Turner Street, West Leipsic, will be closed on August 1 for approximately five days for a railroad repair. Traffic is being detoured onto Ohio 613, Ohio 109, Ohio 18 and back to Ohio 65. Work is being performed by Roadsafe Traffic.
Ohio 12 through the village of Columbus Grove will be resurfaced beginning in approximately two weeks at which time traffic will be restricted to one lane through the work zone. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.
Van Wert County
Ohio 81 between U.S. 127 and Kneller Road is now open following a culvert replacement.
Ohio 637 will be restricted with traffic maintained to prepare the road for an upcoming chip and seal project. Work is being performed by the ODOT Van Wert County maintenance garage.
Ohio 81 east of U.S. 127 between Greenville and Mendon Road closed on July 11 for approximately five days for a culvert replacement. Traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 127, Ohio 117, Ohio 116 and back to Ohio 81. Work is being performed by the ODOT Van Wert County maintenance garage.
U.S. 127 (Washington Street) between Fox Road and Ervin Road in the city of Van Wert closed April 11 for reconstruction and widening of the road. Access to local businesses is maintained. Traffic is detoured onto Ohio 81, Ohio 118, Ervin Road/Van Wert-Decatur Road, U.S. 224 and U.S. 30 back to U.S. 127. The closure will remain in place until fall. Work is being performed by Helms & Sons Excavating, Findlay.
- The U.S. 127 (Washington St.) and Ervin Road intersection closed July 5 for approximately six weeks for reconstruction. Access to businesses and residences is available via Fox Road.
U.S. 224 westbound entrance ramp from eastbound U.S. 30 will be closed beginning July 25 for approximately 30 days for a slide repair project. Traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 30 east to the U.S. 127 interchange. Exit north on U.S. 127 to the U.S. 30 westbound entrance ramp and follow back to U.S. 224. Work is being performed by Jutte Excavating, Fort Recovery.
Wyandot County
Ohio 103 bridge over U.S. 23/Ohio 15, south of Carey, is now open. Traffic will occasionally be restricted to one lane for other work to be performed using flaggers. Work is being performed by DOT Construction Corp., Canfield.
Ohio 37 between County Road 96 and Ohio 67, Marseilles, will be closed on August 1 for approximately 30 days for a culvert replacement. Traffic will be detoured onto Ohio 67, Ohio 294 and back to Ohio 37. Work is being performed by Stevens Engineers & Constructors, Inc., Cleveland.
Ohio 53 from U.S. 23 to the Seneca County line, Ohio 67 from Ohio 53 to Township Highway 121, and Ohio 587 from Ohio 53 to the Seneca County line pavement repair and resurfacing project is nearing completion and is having minimal effect on traffic. Work is being performed by Kokosing Construction, Columbus.
U.S. 30 both eastbound and westbound just west of County Road 128 is restricted to one lane through the work zone until late August during a culvert replacement project. Posted speed through the zone varies when workers are present.
- County Road 128 both on the north and south side of U.S. 30 closed June 27 until late August.
Ohio 293 bridge just south of Wharton closed on July 5 for approximately 30 days for repair. Traffic is detoured onto County Highway 91 and County Highway 47 back to Ohio 293. Work is being performed by DOT Construction Corp., Canfield.
U.S. 23 southbound at the U.S. 30 interchange, Upper Sandusky, may have occasional shoulder closures through the summer during a slope repair project. Work is being performed by Trucco Construction, Delaware.
