North Baltimore High School Senior Olivia Frost signed a National Letter of Intent Tuesday night, at the North Baltimore High School Gymnasium. She will be a member of the Owens Express Women’s Basketball program next year.
“This is a great day for us,” said Owens Women’s Basketball Head Coach Mike Llanas. “We’ve got one hell of a class.” They have recruits headed to northwest Ohio next fall from Chicago to Canton(McKinley), from Westerville to Evergreen to Fostoria, and many points in between.
“We were really impressed when we invited her to open gym, and she drove herself there” said Llanas. “Believe it or not, we don’t see that a lot. Mom and Dad are usually tagging along.” At open gym Olivia faced off against some much taller players, who are actually headed off to some D1 schools like Cincinnati and Michigan.
“We have a huge diamond in the rough in Olivia” said Coach Llanas.
After seeing Olivia and the Lady Tigers play during the regular season against Van Buren(The Tigers crushed them), Owens Assistant Coach Stephen Perry said to her, “You won’t see any players from Van Buren to go up against(in college) but you will see lots of inner-city kids from Detroit, Flint, Columbus”(etc). “Can you play against them?” he asked. Olivia replied, ”Yeah, that sounds like Fun!”
Coach Perry said “We have had seven straight 25-Win seasons. We want more. The Sky’s the Limit!” Coach Llanas added, “There are a lot of negative things going on at Owens right now, we want the women’s basketball program to be the Shining Star of the school”
Olivia will not be one of the biggest kids on the floor at Owens and the coaches said they hope to use her more in the middle, facing the basket , as well as playing the “three spot” out on the perimeter. We see us using her as a good “Every day Guard, and getting used to playing with a shot-clock”.
At NBHS , Frost played forward for Coach Adam Burris, This year she earned First team BVC, First Team District, and All-Northwest Ohio- honorable mention. She will study Biotechnology at Owens.
NBHS Athletic Director Rob Luderman said she is the only athlete to sign a Letter of Intent this year.
Congratulations, Olivia Frost!
