Toledo, OH — On May 12, the Owens Women’s Basketball Program will be holding open tryouts for any woman interested in playing for the Express during the 2018-2019 season. The tryouts will be held in gym at the Student Health and Activities Center from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
The Express are coming off of a 26-6 season that saw them win the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference title and a District I title. The team competed in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament as well where they reached the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Owens is coached by Michael Llanas, who will be entering his 15th season at the helm of the program. Llanas has a overall record of 351-103 during his time as head coach. He has had 50 student-athletes selected to the All-OCCAC team, including 21 First-Team selections and four OCCAC Player of the Year selections (Jeryn Reese in 2015-16 and 2016-17, Sierra Harley in 2014-15 and Jasmine Blanton in 2010-11). Additionally, he has had nine WBCA All-Americans.
Academically, Llanas has coached 30 Academic All-OCCAC selections and 12 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, including Haili Mossing in 2016-17. He has also sent 37 players to four-year schools, including Jeryn Reese (NCAA D-I La Salle University) and Sybil Roseboro (NAIA Indiana University East) in 2016-17.
The assistant coaches are Stephen Perry, who will be entering his 12th season at Owens, and Tiffani Blackman, who will be entering her fourth season as an assistant.
