Collaboration was key in the 2018 Powell Elementary Art Show. Students explored sculpture as one of the most popular categories this year. Makayla Trout’s Bee Hive sculpture won both First Place and Best in Show for the Kindergarten through 3rd Grade Group. She was assisted in creating this sculpture by classmates Raelynn Smith, Ian Ramirez and Zander Grant. 5th Grader Addison Bryan captured the Best in Show Prize for the 4th through 6th Grade Group with her scenic drawing in the Nature/Animal category.
Collaborative sculpture groups also took many awards with Ariana Melendez, Rylee Keller and Attlee Rowlinson receiving 2nd and Jonah Hagemyer, Lucas Long, Michael Kochis-Dulaney and Jack Clark coming in 3rd. Colin Coykendall, Wyatt Baltz, Peyton Carlton and Gavin Soltis worked together to create a marble run that scored a second place ribbon. 1st graders Sienna Snyder and Ava Delancy worked together to create award winning mermaids. Peyton Coykendall, Gabby Clayton and Adalynn Reynolds’ collaborative efforts also brought home a ribbon for the second graders. Not to be outdone, 6th graders Sara Casey and Patience Helberg submitted a 1st place sculpture depicting a pet turtle, Steav, and his habitat.
