The students at Powell Elementary were challenged during the early part of March during Right to Read week to read more than 100,000 minutes during the two week period.
Students kept a log of the time they read at home. At the end of the period the forms were returned and tabulated. The students read more than 91,000 minutes! The challenge said that if they reached the goal they would turn Elementary Principal, Pam Van Mooy into a Chocolate Sundae.
Although the students did not quite reach the goal, Mrs. Van Mooy agreed that they were very close and allowed the Student Council under the direction of Mrs. Bucher to turn her into a sundae. Mrs. Van Mooy sat in her “dish” while students poured chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and sprinkles on her!
