Rudy Charles Gazarek, 88, of North Baltimore passed away at 5:50 a.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Briar Hill Health Campus.
He was born in North Baltimore on April 11, 1930 to the late Steve and Mary (Falsnik) Gazarek. He first married Dorothy H. Deter and she preceded him in death in 1965. He then married Dorothy L. Heilman and they were divorced.
Rudy is survived by three sons, Michael S. (Marcy) Gazarek of Las Vegas; Mark D. (Kim) Gazarek of Findlay and Stacey A.(Ann) Gazarek of North Baltimore; two daughters, Mary T.(Mark Dirksen, deceased) Gazarek of North Baltimore and Monica M.(Ryan Evans) Gazarek of Van Buren; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sinagoga.
Rudy was a 1948 graduate of North Baltimore High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed by ACME Beverage as a salesman and delivery driver for 38 years, retiring April 11, 1995. He was a member of the American Legion Post #539 and enjoyed his daily pinochle game at the Legion. He also was a member of the North Baltimore High School football “chain gang” for 25 years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Father Arthur Niewiadomski officiating. Burial will follow in New Maplewood Cemetery with the American Legion Post #539 presenting full military rites.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and for one hour (9:00-10:00 a.m.) Saturday at the funeral home.
