Ruth Eleanor (Blake) Gonyer, 92, of North Baltimore passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore.
She was born in Hammansburg, Ohio on December 5, 1922 to James and Pearl (Bland) Blake. She married Harold W. (Buck) Gonyer on January 20, 1968 in North Baltimore, and he preceded her in death on July 20, 2002.
Ruth was an employee of the former Hardy Banking Company for 20 years and then worked at the D.S. Brown Company in North Baltimore. She also kept books for several businesses. She belonged to the North Baltimore Business and Professional Women’s Club until her marriage. She was a charter member and past president of the club. She was also a past president and charter member of F.O.E. Auxiliary #2633, North Baltimore, and a member and Past Chief of the Pythian Sisters, a member of American Legion #539 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars #265 in North Baltimore. Ruth was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in North Baltimore where she served as a former treasurer and Sunday School teacher.
Ruth was preceded in death by both parents and seven brothers: John, Earl (Tuffy), Ernest, Woodrow, Carl, William and Paul Blake and three sisters: Evelyn Basil, Edith Dennis and Betty Courtney. She is survived by two stepsons: James A. “Jim” (Kelly) Gonyer of Rudolph, Ohio and Terry L. (Sally) Gonyer of Bowling Green, Ohio.
She is also survived by two brothers: Robert (Stella) Blake of North Baltimore and Frank Blake of Findlay – plus many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Rev. Rick Adams will officiate and burial will be in Weaver Cemetery, Bloom Township.
