2015 North Baltimore Safety Village Held Last Week
submitted by Cara Cikotte
45 children ages 4-7 participated in last week’s North Baltimore Safety Village held at Powell Elementary School. During the week, children learn about safety through a combination of guest speakers and activities. Speakers included representatives from: the Wood County Sheriff’s office, Wood County Park District, Wood County Solid Waste Management District, North Baltimore Police Department, North Baltimore EMS, North Baltimore Fire Department and North Baltimore Schools. Ronald McDonald performed a safety magic show just before graduation on Friday.
Besides learning important safety rules from guest speakers, the children worked on safety skills while riding tricycles and walking on their own village streets. They also did many activities to help them practice their addresses and phone numbers, such as make their own houses and practice writing their phone numbers in shaving cream.

North Baltimore Safety Village is an annual event held every June through the help of community volunteers and staffed by Powell Elementary teachers.
